Paid in Full

A Belleville, Illinois repo man helped pay off a car that he repossessed from an elderly couple. After hearing that the couple was unable to make their car payments due to recent increases in their medical care, he decided to to raise money through gofundme. He managed to raise enough money to pay off the car, have some minor repairs done, and return the car the owners, along with a $1,000 gift from the money that was raised. What’s the nicest thing you’ve ever done to help someone with their car woes? What’s the nicest thing someone has done for you?

Not So Fast Now

On Monday November 14th a 19 year old was arrested in Oklahoma City for allegedly traveling more than 200 miles per hour on the Kilpatrick Turnpike. The driver, Hector Fraire, was at the wheel of a 2011 Ford Mustang. Which raises the question how did he pull of a top speed of 208 mph in a Mustang? A stock Mustang GT like many other mass marketed sports cars is electronically limited to a top speed of 155 mph. Even without the electronic top speed limiter in place the car would not come close to reaching the 200 mph mark in stock form. This raises the more pressing question surrounding this story, which is, who would give a 19 year old the money and resources to build a car that could travel that fast? Or what parent in their right mind would give a kid keys to a car like that?

The Real Cost of Cheap Gas

Automotive manufactures are putting their eggs in the hybrid and electric car basket more than ever before. Over the last several years the automotive industry has seen the rise of electric car giant Tesla and many manufactures introducing new fully electric models in to their lineups such as the Nissan Leaf. Automotive manufactures have been steadily increasing the amount of resources they allocate to new more environmentally friendly propulsion methods for vehicles. BMW even recently announced that they are aiming to sell 100,000 electric cars in 2017, boosting their overall sales of alternative fuel vehicles by two-thirds. New methods of drilling for oil in the United States like fracking have tilted the scales for the US as an oil producer in recent years. This has in turn created a uphill battle for market share for alternative fuel and electric vehicles. Consumers in the US continue to buy pickup trucks and SUVs in large numbers due to low oil prices. What are your thoughts on electric vehicles? Has the technology come far enough for you to consider an electric or hybrid vehicle? Or is cheap gas keeping you from considering these technologies?bmwi_i8_lightbox_01

The Horseless Carriage

befunky-collageSince the dawning of the automobile at the end of the 19th century, cars have dominated our world. In most people’s world, that place is one of pure necessity. For some of us though, cars hold an entirely different place in our lives beyond being a necessary appliance to get to and from work or school everyday. Once built, the bond between an automotive enthusiast and cars is hard to break. My love of cars started at a very young age. Some of my very earliest memories feature my vast collection of Hot Wheels cars. From there I developed a liking for all things mechanical by exploring with countless Lego projects. I then began indulging in automotive publications such as Motor Trend and Car and Driver, by around the time I was in the third grade (A fact my girlfriend is still confused by). Since then I haven’t turned back and outside of my adult responsibilities cars take up a good portion of my free time. Through this blog I hope to share with you, my passion and enthusiasm for all the things automotive!
